The main core of the issues that have been found with the DePuy hips (ASR XL Acetubular and ASR Hip Resurfacing System) are that the parts and pieces do not fit well (both together and within a human body). The fact that they lack a smooth and effortless fit creates friction and particles that are able to cause inflammation, pain and irritation. The result is that pain, scarring and damage occur to the muscles, nerves and bones that are connected to or near the new metal and artificial hip.
It has been said that the company was receiving complaints about the side effects without warning the public or recalling their product for quite some time before finally acting. One piece of evidence that may be proof regarding this is that around 12.5% of those who received a DePuy hip replacement needed to have another surgery or hip procedure is done within five years.
